Born on April 7, 1958 in Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture. Raised in Soka City, Saitama Prefecture from the age of 6. Saitama Prefectural Kasukabe High School in 1977. Graduated from the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Law, Keio University in 1981. Joined Toshiba Corporation in the same year. Won the 1983 Intercity Baseball Tournament. Joined Yakult Swallows in 1985. He became the 20th player in history to hit his first home run in his first at-bat. After leaving the group in 1989, he worked as a Japanese language teacher in Australia. After returning to Japan, he began writing as a sports writer. He has expanded his activities to television and radio, serving as an Olympic newscaster and host of information programs. He is a part-time lecturer at Kanoya University of Physical Education and Kokushikan University Graduate School, and a visiting professor at Japan University of Medical Science. He has long served as a committee member and director of the Japanese Olympic Committee, the Sports Center Development Committee, the Sasakawa Sports Foundation, etc., and has been involved in the promotion of sports and regional revitalization.
